Original Wax Candle Burning Guide

Congratulations on becoming the proud owner of one of our handcrafted soy candles! To make the most of your candle and extend its life, follow these simple tips:

1. The First Burn Matters

Before lighting your candle for the first time, trim the wick to 0.5–1 cm. This ensures an even melt across the surface of the wax.
For the initial burn, let it melt completely to the edges of the jar—this takes about 3–4 hours and prevents tunneling (uneven burning). For future burns, aim for around 3 hours each time. If you can’t allow enough time for a full melt, it’s best to wait for a better moment.

2. Maintaining the Wick

Wick length plays a key role in the quality of the burn. Always trim the wick to 0.5–1 cm before each use. This helps:

• Prevent large, smoky flames

• Avoid soot buildup

• Promote slower, more even wax consumption

• Protect the glass jar from overheating

If the wick is too short, the flame may struggle to burn properly, causing tunneling and wasted wax.

3. Ideal Candle Placement

To enjoy the full fragrance of your candle, place it away from:

• Drafts or open windows

• Humid environments

• Competing strong scents (like kitchens)

These factors can interfere with the scent throw and overall burn quality.

4. Safety First

Keep your candle away from flammable materials like curtains or plants, and always place it on a stable, heat-resistant surface. Ensure it’s out of reach of children and pets.
Once the wax level is less than 1 cm, it’s time to retire the candle. Burning it further risks overheating the jar or damaging surfaces.

5. The Right Way to Extinguish

For a clean, smoke-free extinguishing, use a candle snuffer—available in our shop. Simply place it over the flame to cut off the oxygen supply. This prevents smoke and preserves the fragrance for the next use.

Avoid using the metal lid to snuff out the flame, as this can trap smoke in the wax, resulting in an unpleasant scent the next time you light it.
